
Pella route (Orange River)
(near Pofadder in Northern Cape, From Sandton 1074km:)
This is the most scenic stretch of the Orange River. The route starts at Klein Pella our base and runs for 3½ days down to Witbank (Northern Cape). The Orange River flows through a myriad of islands and channels allowing for excellent rafting, splendid birding and fishing. The rapids start small and gets better the further one goes but no bigger than grade three. Camping areas count amongst the best on any river in South Africa.
Vervet monkey, baboon, otters, water monitor, abounds. Fish eagle, black eagle and even a lone leopard roams these spectacular mountains lining the banks of the Orange river. Low air pollution allows excellent stargazing.
