ASH River (Clarens)
Adrenalin-Adrenalin-Adrenalin
The source of the Ash River is at “ The Fall-out” close to Clarens. The Ash is a relative new river compared to the Vaal and Orange Rivers and is changing all the time.
But what rapids! Grading from 3 tot 5 the Ash River really gets the blood pumping. We start with a very un-technical 3 m drop and continues to “Alles verloren, alles gevonden”. “Bridge rapid” is not all it seems and is in fact a very technical run. “Big surprise” appears very scary but is actually a safe and easy run—but none the less hair raising.
Since the water in the Ash river comes from the “ Katse” dam in Lesotho, running in a tunnel all the way to the Ash River, the temperature tends to be low. A rain- or wetsuit and booties helps against the cold.
The water is a beautiful clear blue at the start of season, reminiscent of many European rivers. Since it is a small river, it allows close up shots for photographers.
We make use of bigger rafts (5 to 9 man) and that makes for excellent teamwork/building.
With “Back-packers”, hotels, guesthouses and lodges, one can pick and choose among accommodation to suit one’s needs and budget.
We supply rafts, safety equipment, guides and refreshments as well as a lunch on full day tours.
Inform trip leaders about any special medical condition you may have as well as the where-about of your medication.
We transport you to the put-in point and take you back to your car afterwards. Bring sunscreen and dry clothing for afterwards. Leave all expensive jewelry, watches and cell phones in the car or at home.
